Our Design & Technology Champion: Mrs. Connelly

 

Starting with the requirements from the National Curriculum, our Design & Technology curriculum uses the fantastic Kapow scheme of work which helps teachers to ensure they are providing opportunities that move children on in their learning in Design & Technology throughout our school. Our curriculum enables children to learn and experience different projects, using different tools and techniques enabling them to 'Believe, Grow & Achieve.' We aim for the children to plan their work, make their own choices about how their designs might look and to always consider who they are creating their work for, helping our children with the things they need to move them on to the next step. As you will see from the overview below, our DT curriculum is weighted towards Cooking & Nutrition, with children having experiences of this in every year group. This is as a result of parent/carer feedback and our determination for children to grow up knowing what healthy lifestyles and choices look like. 

 

As a result of the units chosen, topics can be carried out in any order during a school year. This enables teachers to match the teaching and learning with that of a similar topic in another subject area.

In Reception the curriculum is based on an active learning approach that allows children to explore and develop their skills through continuous provision. 

Early Learning Goals:
